3 Ways to Add Peppermint to Your Coffee

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, coffee is a year-round drink, so it’s always wonderful, BUT it’s extra special because it’s the peppermint coffee time of year! With the holiday season in full swing, it’s time to start adding a little pep in our step. These three coffee drinks are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for a virtual holiday party or for sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace.

  1. Candy Cane Coffee Creamer: The biggest advantage of this recipe is its versatility. You can use it in your coffee, give it to someone for a gift exchange, or you can make your own fancy coffee drinks. This recipe is really simple and only requires a few ingredients: half and half, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract. Boil the half and half and milk, and stir the sugar in until it dissolves. Okay, when it comes to extracts BE CAREFUL! Peppermint extract is extremely strong and a small amount goes a long way. This recipe calls for one teaspoon, believe us it is enough!! Add the peppermint and vanilla extract to the mixture and pour into your coffee. It will get you into the holiday spirit in no time!
  2. Peppermint Mocha: This drink is so good you’ll think it was made by a barista at your favorite coffee spot! What we love about the recipe is that you can make it your own. If you want to change up the ratio between coffee and chocolate, go for it! If you can’t have dairy, use a milk substitute. This recipe gives a few options for the minty flavor such as mint extract, a candy cane, or peppermint syrup. To get the perfect holiday feel, we think a candy cane works great! Heat milk, cocoa, and sugar in a saucepan. Once it’s hot, add espresso, peppermint, vanilla and you’re done! You can top it with whipped cream and chocolate shavings or just enjoy it on its own.
  3. Peppermint Coffee Toddy: If you know us, you know we can’t resist a little something *special* in our coffee. This recipe requires one pot and only has two steps! You’ll need coffee, peppermint schnapps, creme de cacao, heavy cream, and whipped cream. Heat the coffee, peppermint schnapps, and creme de cacao in a pot until hot, and then stir in the heavy cream before serving it. Add some whipped cream on the top and you’re done!
